Training and Orientation Instructors
Wood shop members have a wide range of skills. Some have grown up creating objects with wood, some have formal training in wood working, and others are brand new to the smells and sounds of a wood shop.
The environment of the shop is of teaching and learning. A look around the shop displays many one on one “consultations”, informal teaching and learning. These informal meetings promote skills and also build friendships.
Learning continues more formally with classes covering a wide variety of subjects. Experienced members volunteer their time to introduce new skills in a safe manner. Subjects include:
• Introduction to advanced turning on lathe
• Wood joinery
• Box making
• Computer controlled (CNC) router system
Classes are formed as interest is expressed by members, or a member has an interest in teaching a subject.
