The shop has several types of sanding equipment.
The Disk Sanders use a course grit and are powerful. They useful for removing excess wood quickly. They do have a small sanding area and are useful for cleaning up end cuts on a board.
There are 2 Vertical Belt Sanders with 44″ beds, which are perpendicular to the paper, making it useful for squaring up edges of a board.
The #14 Drum Sander has a 21″ throat. This machine is for removing planer chatter marks, or creating a semi-smooth surface on
solid wood.
The Medium Drum Sander has a 21″ throat and uses 40 grit paper. This machine is for removing planer chatter marks, or creating a semi-smooth surface on
solid wood.

The #13 Drum Sander has two sanding drums> the forward one uses 120 grit sandpaper while the rear one use #180 sandpaper. This allows you to perform two levels of sanding in one pass. There are two cranks on the top of the machine which control the separate drums.
The Oscillating Sanders oscillate up and down. These are useful for finishing curved surface. If you have a line you are cutting to with a band saw and needs a little bit of material remove to smooth out the curve. the curve.
There are several Oscillating Drum sizes. They simply screw on to the rotator shaft and are easy to interchange. They are stored on the side of each machine
