When I retired I became interested in wood craving. For the next few years we traveled the country and whenever I had the chance I attended wood carving conventions. We were staying in Prescott Valley and I took a wood carving course at Yavapai College from a lady who carved and turned on the lathe. The following semester I took her beginning lathe course. I had owned a lathe for several years but had never learned to use it correctly. (I was fair at making candle holders and finishing them with shoe polish.) After that class I continued with more lathe classes and ended up with 16 college credits in wood turning. After we left the Prescott area I bought a new lathe and later another one. We moved to Sun City West in the spring of 2015 and I continue to turn at home or the Wood shop almost every day. I am a member of the Arizona Wood turners Association, the American Association of Wood turners and the Grand Canyon State Woodcarvers. |
